The Great Debate
Mayor Sarah facilitated a debate in the council chambers. Those arguing for the construction of a road beyond Mount Seymour to Whistler included truckers, housing developers, Hydro representatives (who proposed a new dam site) etc. while those opposed to the construction of a road included ornithologists, 1st Nations people, wilderness tour operators etc. All had a chance to give their reasons and then there was a question period. It was a lively debate! Mayor Sarah made the difficult decision to not allow the road to be built. Ironically both sides cheered.
