Our Harbour Tour Field Trip
Yesterday we had the unique experience of a Vancouver Harbour tour. The students were able to see ships carrying resources and manufactured goods in and out of the harbour, as well as the machines used to load and unload them, and ships in dry dock ready for repair. There were seaplanes and a helicopter and of course suntanning seals near the Mosquito Creek Marina. Thank you to Roxie and the Port of Vancouver Businesses who made this possible and to Miss Beleski, Kinny, the interpreter, and the parent (and godmother) volunteers - Sonja, Kristine, Julie, and Chris, who accompanied us.
Dissecting Owl Pellets with Our Grade 1 Buddies and a Visit from a Veterinarian
This activity fit in well with the Grade 5 study of body systems and the grade 4 study of animal adaptations.
We were also lucky to have Sonja, T's mom, who is a veterinarian, come and talk to the class. She wowed the students with X-rays and a dog skeleton. The students asked good questions about her experiences as a veterinarian. Meet Big Bob the Rat and a dog with puppies (inside her)!

Nutritious Eating
Dietician students from UBC presented healthy eating to the students. They enjoyed vegetable kabobs.
A Visit with Roanne and Baby Mathis
The students were thrilled to see Roanne and meet Mathis! We calculated how big we'd be if we grew as fast as Mathis.
Both Baby and Mom are doing very well.

We learned about imports and exports in Vancouver including our T shirts. We also learned what the ships in the harbour carry, where they go and where they come from.

Grade 4 Science Projects
Grade 5 Science Presentations
After making a life size 2D body showing organs of the body, the students created working models of organs. The problem solving, creativity, and learning about the body was wonderful to see.
